At CCPR we recognize that fostering is a profound commitment. Our fosters change the course of the life of every dog that enters their home. Without our amazing fosters we simply wouldn't be able to take on each puppy in our care and so many lives would be lost. With that in mind, we strive to fully equip our fosters for their assignments, and we offer them any support they need as they care for the dog or puppy they are fostering. This looks like supplying food, potty pads, meds, toys, and any veterinary care required.
Our fosters fall into 3 categories: Newborn Fosters, Placement Fosters and Hospice Fosters.
Newborn Fosters:
The majority of the babies we take in are special needs. Most of those are hours old when they are surrendered to us and require around the clock care. Those born with cleft palates or lip require tube feeding and sometimes medical intervention. Fostering a baby this young means being with your foster 24 hrs. a day for the first weeks. They have to be fed every 2 hours, so it's like caring for a newborn infant. It is a huge commitment, but the impact of physically saving their lives and seeing them thrive after all of your love and effort is like none other.
Placement Fosters:
Once the newborns have been weaned and vaccinated, they can start looking for their Forever Homes. Placement Fosters help these pups learn the ropes of things like potty training and socialization. This will be their first taste of what life will be like for them out of rescue. Ultimately the most important, component for our Fosters is to help their foster pup find their forever home! Posting them on social media and taking them out to events and dog friendly venues are great ways to do this.
Hospice Fosters:
Being a Hospice Foster isn't for everyone. But it is beyond rewarding for those up for the challenge! Many of the puppies surrendered to us have medical issues and disabilities. There are times when these issues will ultimately cut the puppies time on Earth much shorter than we would like, such as in cases of Hydrocephalus. We strongly believe that these babies still deserve all the love and care we can give them until the time comes that they pass or are suffering. Fosters for these sweet babies will need to monitor them continuously and provide them with any care or treatments they need to keep them comfortable. But most of all show them all the love they deserve!
Transporting:
If you are not currently able to foster, but still want to be actively involved, we frequently need puppies transported from the owner to the rescue and/or to the foster.
If you think you would be interested in any of the above opportunities, please fill out the foster questionnaire and we will get back to you as soon as possible!
